Woman fights for $ 20,000 at Miss Texas Volunteer Contest page

Tiffany Dimaano, who represented Clear Lake when she finished in the top 15 in the 2014 Miss Texas Outstanding Teen competition, will be competing for a $ 20,000 scholarship as a Miss Houston Volunteer in the first Miss Texas Volunteer competition on July 3.

The competition takes place at the Allen Performing Arts Center in Allen. The first runner-up will receive a $ 10,000 scholarship.

Dimaano, a 2019 graduate of Texas A&M University, recently sponsored a COVID-19 vaccination drive sponsored by the Texas Unified Society of Thomasians. She has volunteered at fundraisers for medical and surgical missions and the Houston Food Bank. In addition, she has worked in call support at a healthcare facility that runs COVID-10 tests.

Miss Texas Volunteer participants compete against each other in interviews, talent, fitness and wellness and evening gowns, with the top 5 answering a question on stage. Women aged 17 to 25 have until June 27 to participate at mistexasvolunteer.org/contact.

The winner will advance to the first annual Miss America Volunteer competition in Nashville, Tennessee in May 2022.

Girls ages 13-17 can participate in the Miss Teen Texas Volunteer Contest, which will be held on July 3rd in conjunction with the Miss Contest.

Speaking at the Miss Texas Volunteer talent contest, Dimaano said, “I’m going to sing ‘Go the Distance’ from the Disney film ‘Hercules’. As the OT for Miss Clear Lake, I sang ‘Defying Gravity’ from the Broadway musical ‘Wicked’. “

Dimaano is an intern at the Houston Health Department hoping to do a PhD in epidemiology.


Local student gets a place on the ACU honor roll

Friendswood’s Rileigh Smith was named the Honorary Dean of Abilene Christian University in the spring of 2021.

Smith is a senior majoring in Integrated Studies, Early Childhood Education, and Elementary Education.

Friendswood student named on dean’s list at George Fox

Ellie Wilber, a Friendswood sophomore student majoring in nursing at George Fox University in Newberg, Oregon, has received Deanery Recognition for the Spring 2021 Semester.

Traditional undergraduate students must earn a 3.5 GPA for 12 or more hours of graded work in order to receive a spot on the Dean’s List.

Students in the region are given a place on Harding’s list of deans

Seniors Caleb Drew and Kyle Huggins, both from Friendswood, are among more than 1,150 Harding University students on the Dean’s List for Spring 2021.

Drew is studying music and Huggins is studying computer science.

League City student on Rockhurst Dean’s List

Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri, recently named League City’s Sydney Shindler to its spring 2021 dean list.

Friendswood student added to University of Utah deans list

The University of Utah in Salt Lake City recently named Sophie Rudd von Friendswood as a major in Sociology with a spot on its dean’s list for spring 2021.

Friendswood’s Zeyanna Dhalla earned a spot on the Dean’s List for Spring 2021 at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.

Friendswood resident on Shenandoah University deans list

Isabella Morrison of Friendswood is one of 962 students who have been placed on the dean’s list at Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia for the spring semester of 2021.

Friendswood residents graduate from Abilene Christian

Abilene Christian University awarded 1,206 degrees in three ceremonies May 7-8, including the following local students.

Ricardo Lopez Franco from Friendswood holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Information Systems.

Sara Kincaid of Friendswood graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Service and Vocation.

Friendswood woman makes dean of Georgia Tech

Rachel Epperson of Friendswood made it onto the Dean’s List for the Spring Semester 2021 at the Georgia Institute of Technology. This designation is given to undergraduate students who have achieved an academic average of 3.0 or higher in the semester.


Pearland ISD appoints director of testing, accountability and program evaluation

The Pearland Independent School District welcomes Melissa Ward as the new director of testing, accountability and program evaluation.

Most recently, Ward served as assistant principal and English teacher at Dawson High School for 13 years. Before that she worked as a special education teacher in Brazosport ISD.

“It is our duty to ensure that all students are progressing year on year and that all graduates are ready to enter college, work, or the military,” she said. “I want our employees to work under the ideal that every child is important.”

Ward holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Stephen F. Austin State University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts.

Pearland Student Makes Dean List at Angelo State

Angelo State University’s recently announced list of deans for spring 2021 includes Jordan Maxheimer, a management major from Pearland.

Memorial Hermann Pearland Hospital received an A Safety Rating from The Leapfrog Group, a Washington DC-based organization that oversees the quality and safety of health care.
