Nelson Labs® and Sterigenics® open state-of-the-art

SALT LAKE CITY and OAK BROOK, Illinois, September 28, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Nelson Labs and Sterigenics Germany GmbH, the world’s leading providers of comprehensive laboratory tests and sterilization services, today announced the opening of a newly expanded competence center for microbiological laboratory tests and increased sterilization capacities at their facilities in Wiesbaden, Germany. This expansion takes into account the significantly increased demand for these services from the medical device and pharmaceutical industries.

The Wiesbaden laboratory facility, which has been part of the global Nelson Labs network since 2016, has significantly increased the total laboratory space and state-of-the-art capabilities to meet the increased global regulatory requirements of medical and pharmaceutical customers.

“With the continued growth and success of our laboratory in Wiesbaden, Nelson Labs had outgrown its current facility. We needed to expand to better serve our customers, ”said Joe Shrawder, President of Nelson Labs. This new laboratory room has expanded the facility in Wiesbaden to 10 times the size of the original laboratory and offers much wider laboratory capacities. The advantages for customers include a significantly increased capacity for bacterial load tests, bacterial endotoxins (BET), biological indicators (BI) sterility and ethylene oxide (EO) residual analyzes. The new Wiesbaden expansion significantly reduces the need to outsource services to other laboratories and helps ensure that most laboratory tests are performed on-site at a fully accredited Nelson Labs facility.

The laboratory also includes GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) Class A and B clean rooms available for performing the most critical product sterility tests. The new laboratory, which is still conveniently located next to the Sterigenics sterilization facility, will also house state-of-the-art equipment such as biological safety cabinets and gas chromatographs for residual EO analysis to further enhance its capabilities. The combined resources and expertise of Nelson Labs and Sterigenics enable customers to conduct their product testing and sterilization in one place with a team of experts who understand their unique product requirements.

In order to be able to offer comprehensive sterility assurance services for the European market, Sterigenics has also expanded its sterilization capacities in Wiesbaden. “Wiesbaden is a current example of our commitment to expand or build capacities where the market needs our services,” said Mike Rutz, President of Sterigenics. “This new expansion was successfully taken from the investment decision to market readiness in less than a year and will provide additional capacities in the Sterigenics network to bring customers’ products to market quickly, flexibly and safely.”

The expanded laboratory in Wiesbaden will be a state-of-the-art center of excellence for growth in the field of routine microbiological services in Europe. Combined with increased sterilization capacity, Nelson Labs and Sterigenics, both divisions of Sotera Health Company, will be able to better serve customer needs and continue to fulfill their common mission of “Safeguarding Global Health”®.
