Michigan music festival season hasn’t been the same since COVID raised its head in 2020.

The cancellations of popular music-centric celebrations over the past two years have ranged from some of the largest in the state like Electric Forest and Mo Pop Festival, to long-standing iconic events like Wheatland and Earthwork Harvest Gathering, to smaller boutique festivals featuring local and regional acts.

But many festivals in Michigan’s nature returned in the summer of 2021 as some capacity restrictions and health protocols were lifted.

And while concerns remain as the Omicron variant fuels COVID flair-ups, the outlook for 2022 seems cautiously optimistic as more than 50 Michigan festivals will once again attract music-loving people, including the return of Electric Forest, Mo. Pop, Camp Greensky, Wheatland, and the Michigan Irish Music Festival, among others.

The organizers of the Electric Forest in Rothbury from June 23rd to 26th call their line-up 2022 “the soundtrack for our reunion” – a long-delayed celebration of 10 moments. ”

Of course, magical moments at numerous Michigan festivals make believers return year after year, and 2022 has some tantalizing milestones to consider, including the final Cowpie Music Festival at Shagbark Farm in the Caledonia area in August and the one with Highly anticipated revivals of May’s Buttermilk Jamboree in Delton and the Blissfest in July near Harbor Springs, not to mention more secluded events like the Beaver Island Music Festival and Porcupine Mountains Music Festival in Ontonagon in August.

Speaking of milestones, Local Spins celebrates its 10th anniversary in Maykicking off the season with Local Spins Fest on May 21 in downtown Grand Rapids. (Stay tuned to find out more about this in the months ahead.)

Announcements of more festivals are likely in the coming weeks when organizers take the precautions, not to mention updates on the impact the ongoing COVID pandemic could have on events already on the books.

With that in mind, here is Local Spins’ Michigan Music Festivals 2022 Guide to help you ring in the new year and inspire you to dream about the musical magic that is to come. Happy New Year!
