LaPorte County’s commissioner Sheila Matias announced Monday night that she is running for re-election in 2022.
“It is a privilege to represent the people of LaPorte County,” Matias said in a press release. “It has been a moving experience to work with the county team doing what is necessary even in the toughest days of the Covid crisis.” Day in and day out to provide care and exceptional service to the people in our county. It has been an honor to serve you and I hope to count on your enthusiasm and support. “
Matias said she plans to use “good old-fashioned common sense” and her corporate governance experience to serve LaPorte County if she is re-elected.
She said her voice was needed now more than ever.
“I hope to continue speaking for real people and real families while promoting a community culture of respect, justice and friendliness,” said Matias. “I know some of you may feel that I should sit back and relax, but this is not the time.”
As district commissioner, Matias led the project to redesign the district’s website to promote transparency and easy access to information for the district’s residents, the press release said. She founded the LaPorte County Rural Broadband Task Force and actively supported the business community in maintaining jobs and creating new jobs.
