Get ready to party! List of July 4th events


RICHMOND, Virginia – Get ready to celebrate Independence Day with this list of events across the area.

  • The Richmond Kickers will play at home on July 3rd. The game starts at 6:30 p.m. at the City Stadium.
  • The Richmond Flying Squirrels Fourth of July celebration takes place on July 1st, 3rd and 4th. The fireworks shows in the Diamond are used to 100 percent.
  • The Richmond City Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities will host a modified celebration. Fireworks will be held at Dogwood Dell on July 4th at around 9:15 pm. Due to changes, there will be no entertainment or food stands prior to the show. There is no parking zone at the Dogwood Dell Amphitheater from 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The Richmond Police Department will enforce the following no-parking zones on July 4th from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
    • 700-1000 blocks on Blanton Avenue between Garrett Street and Grant Street (both sides)
    • Arthur Ashe Boulevard between Blanton and Idlewood Avenues (both sides)
    • Park Drive between Pump House Dr. and Blanton Avenue (both sides)
    • Idlewood Avenue between S. Arthur Ashe Boulevard and S. Robinson Street (both sides)
  • Arthur Ashe Boulevard will be closed to vehicle traffic at 6:00 p.m. Visitors can park at Ruger Field, Fountain Lake, and Shields Lake. Fireworks viewing is not open at the Dogwood Dell Amphitheater.   • Henrico County’s Fourth of July celebrations will be held at Meadow Farm and Crump Park at 3400 Mountain Road in Glen Allen. The event starts at 5 p.m. Susan Greenbaum plays the national anthem and is accompanied by the Richmond Symphony. The performance takes place at 8 p.m., followed by a laser light show. The event ends around 9.15 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring their lounge chairs or picnic blankets and enjoy music, food trucks, and roving entertainment.
  • Carmax Free July 4th at Lewis Ginter takes place on July 4th from 9am to 5pm. Admission is free and no reservations are required. Fully vaccinated guests do not need to wear a mask indoors or outdoors. Those who are not fully vaccinated must wear a mask indoors at all times and outdoors when social distance of 6 feet is not an option. The garden is not hosting the butterflies LIVE! Exhibition this year and WaterPlay in kindergarten will remain closed. Guests are invited to wear red, white, and blue and decorate strollers and prams on July 4th. Activities like live music and a parade are not part of this year’s festivities. Groceries can be purchased, but no groceries may be brought into the garden from outside. You can bring water bottles, blankets, and lounge chairs. This is a daytime event, so there are no fireworks associated with this event.
  • Celebrate July 4th in Chesterfield with fireworks and music presented by Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation and the Virginia Credit Union on July 4th at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds at 10300 Courthouse Road. The gates open at 5 p.m. and the fireworks start at nightfall. The free event features musical entertainment from The Deloreans at 6:15 p.m. There will be food for sale at the event. Social distancing guidelines and masks established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Virginia Department of Health. All event traffic must enter Krausestrasse. Glass, alcohol, fireworks, pets, tents, or canopies are not allowed at the event, and all bags and cool boxes must be searched. Fireworks on tap for July 4th. Additional spaces for viewing fireworks will be available in adjacent parking lots and public portable toilets will be available.
  • The Hopewell Recreation and Parks Department fireworks display at the Appomattox event will take place on July 3rd at 9:30 p.m.
  • The show is one of the few in the state that takes place entirely over the water and uses fireworks to shoot from a barge. Lookouts include the HCA John Randolph Medical Center, City Park, Hopewell Riverwalk, Hopewell City Marina, and various points in historic downtown Hopewell. The Appomattox River navigable canal between City Point and the State Route 10 Bridge will be temporarily closed during the event. This year’s event is sponsored by the HCA John Randolph Medical Center as a tribute to the efforts of health workers during the pandemic. Personal fireworks, alcohol, and tobacco products are prohibited in all venues. Guns are not allowed on the John Randolph Medical Center campus.   • On Friday and Saturday the Monster Truck Throwdown 2021 will take place at VA Motorsports Park Dirtplex at 8018 Boydton Plank Road, N. Dinwiddie, with wheelie and donut competitions, backflip motocross and high-flying thrills from 4:00 p.m. – daily 11 p.m. Fireworks will be held on Friday and Saturday evenings when it is dark.
  • Outdoor Movie Night & Fireworks takes place on July 2nd at the Petersburg Sports Complex at 100 Ballpark Road. (from Johnson Road), Petersburg. The film The Sandlot will be shown at 9 p.m., followed by fireworks at 10:50 p.m.
  • On the night of July 3, the Tri-City Chili Peppers will compete against the Peninsula Pilots at 7:00 p.m. at Shepherd Stadium, 901 Meridian Ave., Colonial Heights.
  • Fireworks will be held from a barge on the Appomattox River in Hopewell at 9:30 p.m. Find a parking lot in downtown Hopewell and from the cliff behind John Randolph Hospital (411 W. Randolph Rd.), Look at Hopewell Marina (1051 Riverside Dr.) (205 Appomattox St.). At 7.30 p.m. there is a food truck on the hospital grounds.
  • On July 4th, Pamplin Historical Park at 6125 Boydton Plank Rd., N. Dinwiddie, is offering special activities from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, including the chance to meet up with and meet George Washington, a classic baseball game chat, special tours, live Citizens of Old Virginia music, cannon fire salutes, and more. All additional activities are linked to regular park entry.
  • Fireworks display in Colonial Heights past Wal-Mart in the Southgate Square Area, 671 Southpark Blvd., off I-95, Exit 53 or 54. The fireworks display starts at 9:15 pm. A rainy date is planned for July 5th.
