Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (Climate Act): Draft scoping plan Public comment period

The Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (Climate Act) was signed into law in New York State in 2019 as one of the most ambitious climate laws in the world. The law created the Climate Action Council (the Council), tasked with developing a draft scoping plan that will serve as an initial framework for how the state will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve net-zero emissions, the use of renewables Increase energies and ensure climate justice.

The Climate Action Council will hold 10 public hearings across the state to gather public input on the draft scoping plan and to advance work on a final scoping plan that will support the implementation of the state’s nation-leading climate goals under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act) ( Climate Protection Act).

Eight in-person hearings and two virtual hearings will be held for public input. Pre-registration is recommended but not required for the in-person hearings. Seating and speaking rights are given priority to those who have registered in advance.

In-person hearings will be webcast for viewing purposes only. Members of the public wishing to provide oral comments must either be present in person or attend a virtual hearing. It is not necessary to speak at multiple hearings as equal weight will be given to statements made in each forum. In addition, equal weight is given to written and oral comments.

The hearings will be recorded and posted on the Climate Law website as soon as possible.
