Fort White basketball takes to the hardwood, against Williston and Interlachen

FORT WHITE -- The Fort White Indians returned to the basketball court just one day after returning to school from the Christmas break.

There were home games scheduled two nights this past week, both of which were triple headers.

Night one saw the Williston Red Devils come to town and the jv boys played first followed by the varsity girls.

Williston's varsity girls team took on a Fort White team that played one game in the Christmas break tournament that was hosted on the Lady Indians' home floor. The Red Devils were able to get the victory 48-33. Lakeria Walker of Williston was the game's high scorer with 17 points, including three, three-pointers. She was followed by Angie Wilcox who netted 11 points for the visitors. The home team was led in scoring by Tosha Robinson who scored thirteen points, while Cenise Armstrong put in eight.

The varsity boys also fell to Williston on Wednesday night, falling by a final score of 60-51. Melton Sanders led the way for the Indians with 14 points. Williston was led in scoring by Brandon Preston he had the game-high 23 points including four three-point baskets.

Then on Friday night it was another triple header this time the Indians were hosting Interlachen. The jv's squared off first, and in a game that was back-and-forth all afternoon long, it came down to a final shot that was missed by Fort White, and Interlachen's jv got their school's only victory of the night, 74-73.

The Lady Indians took on the Rams in girls varsity action after the junior varsity was over. Despite trailing 17-14 after the first quarter, the Lady Indians fought back for the 49-41 victory. The free throw line was not kind for Fort White as they went 9-of-35 from the charity stripe. The game's high scorer was Brittany Williams of Interlachen with 19 points. Brook Burns was second for the Rams as she downed 13 points. Tosha Robinson caught fire in the second quarter scoring nine of her 15 points. Rykia Jackson was the second leading scorer for Fort White with 12 points.

The varsity boys closed the night out with a 61-41 victory. At halftime the score was 11-10. Sanders again led the Indians with fourteen points including one three point basket. Nick Butler and AJ Legree were second in scoring both putting in 10 points. Josh McGruder led the Rams with fourteen points including three three point baskets. Daquon Greene was second in scoring with 13. including four free throws coming down the stretch.

Fort White's boys team will be home on Tuesday hosting rival Santa Fe with junior varsity at 6 pm and varsity at 7:30. The girls will host Santa Fe on Thursday night at 5:30 and 7:00. p.m.
